‘Guinguettes’ or open-air dances in Caux-Seine Valley

For the last few years, the Tourist Office has kept alive the wonderful tradition of ‘Guinguettes’ or open-air dances. This year they will be held on Thursdays in different villages around the area.

There’s pleasure to be had in Caux-Seine Valley

It was in the 19th century that open-air café-saloons, as immortalised by Auguste Renoir, became popular. There, small groups of people would meet, eat, drink, chat, dance and have fun in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Four years ago, the Caux-Seine Valley Tourist Office revived this tradition and it’s a great opportunity to delve deeper and find out more about the region, all in a light and friendly atmosphere- just right for a summer’s evening! Things begin at 6.30pm with a stroll to see around the village and continues with a market where local growers and artisans  proudly show off their produce. You can in fact find all you need there to make up a sumptuous dinner from local goods! Then, the ‘Guingette’ itself gets going with an band who’ll get young and old alike dancing.
